If you are like me and prefer to download BBC TV shows and watch them at your leisure on your AppleTV you may have noticed that this is becoming more difficult to do. Many of the apps available to do this sort of thing have recently stopped working.
While iPlayer+ has long been my software of choice, as it looks good and has it's own built-in proxy for downloading shows outside of the UK. Unfortunately, it has been flakey for a while now and recently stopped working all together. This has brought me back to using Get iPlayer Automator which is essentially the same thing, albeit with no built-in proxy (and it doesn't look quite as slick).
Imagine my horror when even this app failed to work today! Thankfully, I'd already seen the season finale of Doctor Who, or I may not have managed to control my lament.
Well you don't have to resort to watching TV on your computer just yet. As it turns out, this minor hiccup can be easily fixed with the instructions found here.
So if you are having this problem, just copy this block of text, paste it into a terminal window and 'Get iPlayer Automator' will rise again:
perl "/Applications/Get iPlayer Automator.app/Contents/Resources/get_iplayer.pl" --profile-dir "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Get iPlayer Automator/" --prefs-add --rtmp-tv-opts="--swfVfy http://www.bbc.co.uk/emp/releases/iplayer/revisions/617463_618125_4/617463_618125_4_emp.swf"
This assumes that you have placed the app in the Applications folder, if you don't keep it there you will have to edit the path, or put the app there before you run the Terminal command.
Edit: Get iPlayer Automator has now been updated to resolve this issue.
